Feb & March
Annual STTSS cross-country race, 5km this year uphill and downhill -.- Surprisingly I got 13th for my category o.o Then comes along the STTSS sports day. Our class, Senior 3 Zhong, was leading Yellow House, and we got overall champion, which includes marching champion, cheerleading 1st runner-up, and a lot more trophies and medals which are now collecting dust on a desk in our class. Our house also managed to create a record of scoring an overall result of over 1000 points! Now wouldn't you agree that it is awesome =D Praise God!
Following this would be our mid-terms... Lots of ouch-es here and there. Then on the last day of mid-terms, we received our 2009 SPM results. We got lucky, most of us got over 10 As, including a lot of A+s of course =) The highest score would be Derrick Liew, 16As, Charlene Yong, Chai Ling and I, with 15As each, then See Rune & Kimberly with 14As, then 13As.. 12 As... Too many people, can't really remember.
Even though this is good news, however SPM doesn't mean much to us unless we try out for scholarships to study elsewhere, namely foundation or A levels, which means we would have to give up on Senior 3 and that is the one thing which i definitely would not want to do. If we continue on for Senior 3 however, then it would be a waste of SPM results and also a big challenge for all of us cause we need to study 3 years of UEC syllabus in only about 9 months time... Which is why i wavered throughout the year but i will get to that later.
April
Things are starting to get real busy now. The first big event would be the KK Regional Mooting competition. Lots of preparation were put into it and the class-skipping-routine is starting now. Oh the stress! The former team last year won the KK regional rounds and also won the Australia rounds at Bond University so the school has high hopes for both teams. Arguments and unhappy events were raised about the selection of team members, as in who should be with who, and class-skipping just made Max and I drag behind the whole class since we couldn't catch up with the super-fast-speed of our teachers. Max who is my classmate and I were the only Senior 3s out of the 6 people joining (the rest would be Senior 2s, how i envy them, honeymoon period), so the two of us could really feel the pressure on us. Many great thank-yous to our lawyer, Jia Yee, who helped us throughout this whole stressful process. Without her i doubt that we could even give a presentation on that stage. Even though both teams lost in the end, since only one team could be picked out from 21 teams, however luckily enough i still managed to get an Outstanding Advocacy award, which is really good for all 6 of us since this means that not all our hard work was lost and the school at least still have something to keep up last year's amazing record. Something to remember by, Daryl Barker, Mr. Fong, Appellant =D Student Year Bash!
Team A: Calvin Yong, Max Yong, Ong
Team B: Ian Chhoa, Nathanael Chong, I
Both teams were acting for the Appellant, the Vice-Principal.
Next up is the National English Parliamentary Debate organized by HELP college in KL. Surprisingly enough, the team which was representing the school consists of the same members in my mooting team =DD Ian Chhoa, Nathanael Chong and I, with a new member as the reserve, Margeret Loo. Well, I knew it's gonna be hard work cause i participated for fun in 2009, but whoever can resist a free trip to KL?? And the people we will meet and experience that we will get... Oh dear. So, stupid I accepted teacher's request for me to join, and hence more class skipping!! this year's competition is even more heated than last year's. 64 teams in 2009, 96 teams in 2010!!! Omg! Not only so, the number of independent schools joining was only like, not up to 5?? The rest were all government schools which the mother tongue of their students is mostly English, while us, the Chinese-speaking people is gonna put up a fight with them >< The hardest part would be the actual preparation, cause we are the only non-East Malaysians so we couldn't participate in the debate workshop, and we have only received our motions one week after the East M'sians received theirs... Altogether 21 motions, meaning we have to prepare for 42 sides, both opposition and government.
I still faintly remember our first four motions for the preliminary rounds.
1st - This house believes that the public sector should only hire non-smokers, opposition.
2nd - This house believes that environmental labelling should be put on all products, government.
3rd - This house believes that MNCs should be responsible for their companies abroad, opposition.
4th - This house believes that prisoners should be allowed to donate their organs in exchange for the shortening of their sentences, government.
Won the 1st, 2nd and 4th, but lost the 3rd by 1 point!!!! Due to unfair circumstances in which the time-keeper gave our last speaker the wrong time to do his reply speech, of course we were extremely hot and bothered since this may affect our chances to advance to the octofinals! Even so, we were lucky since this time, the organizers decided to adopt a point accumulation system instead of knockout rounds, so in the end we were ranked 13 out of the 96 teams! Praise God!
We lost our 5th round though (knockout system, this house believes that doctors should report marital abuse to the police, opposition) to this year's champion, and that was due to a head adjudicator who was somewhat biased... We were depressed, disappointed and tired since we prepared for the remaining 17 motions in only 3 days. We had to do so because they only announced the motions and stands one hour before the competition, same goes with the 2nd and 4th prelim rounds. So, to try again in 2011 and get the champion, we really have to buck up and search for potential talents in the school, which is why the debate team decided to organize our very 1st inter-class english parliamentary debate competition in our school. I'll get to that later.
Had to give up my graduation photo taking just for this debate since we advanced to the octofinals, dates clashed, cried my eyes and heart out for this =( Thank God i didn't miss the class-taking one because my class is willing to wait for me, touched =D Almost had to miss the ICAS Science competition too but thank God our principal, Mr. Hiew managed to arrange for me to take the exam at Tshun Jin Independent School in KL. Oh and lastly, the team managed to befriend a time-keeper, FB ID: Kaiser Silversky, and an awesome young head adjudicator, FB ID: Teo Eu Jinn, who dances salsa, former champion of national BM debate and also the son of the head police officer in KL. Both of them took us around KL and treated us to an amazing mexican supper.
See what i meant about meeting awesome new people? =D

May
I am definitely lagging behind my classes.. =( It is so hard for me to catch up. I had to work extra hours in order to keep up with my class, and also to catch up with the top-dogs of the science stream, or else how am i ever going to university?? Even so, the activities didn't stop there. To start off this month would be the Inter-class Chinese Debate competition. We as the school's Chinese debate team would be acting as the organizers. More more work!!! We also added a special event to this year's, which is the champion of the senior section will get a chance to have a face-off with us, the school debate team. Many students were involved as workers for this event and we really have to thank them because if not for them, I doubt that the 6 of us could organize this huge event smoothly. Thank God I didn't have to go up for the face-off round because I have just returned from KL, but the other 5 members had to prepare for both the face-off round and organize it at the same time. I helped them for the face-off round as well but not as much preparations as them of course. In the end, a Senior 1 team won the champion for the senior section, which was quite a surprise for us since they were up against an experienced Senior 3 team. But it's ok, cause in the face-off round, the school team won =D Yay our reputation is maintained. It is undeniable though that it was a very very close and exciting match. All that's well ends well i guess =)
Chinese Debate Team: Cheau Li, Fanny, Sue Jean, Zhi Ying, Bryan, I
Oh it doesn't end there. Since I was the only one from the debate team who didn't join the face-off round, hence our teacher-in-charge gave me a new task. To lead a potential team selected from the chinese debate competition to participate in the friendly Chinese Forum match with Hong Kong Lee Kau En Memorial School. (not sure if the spelling is correct =p) Arghh great, now how am i gonna do this without any experience? So the whole team, also 6 people now including me, worked our butts off for this. We stayed back after school, gathered at nights, begged the vice-principal to let us skip classes (class-skipping was banned since a lotta teachers complained about the mooting team because we skipped too many class =/), seek for advice from different teachers with different styles... etc. Our time was wholly consumed just for this match, so, thank God our performance on the day itself was good or we'd really feel so... It's just that so much time which can be used for studying was used on this instead >< We developed a new style for this forum instead of the usual serious type, by adopting a relaxed and casual style. This totally surprised everyone who was present, even the HK judges praised us, so i guess that settles our responsibility of keeping up the school's good name =) Chinese Forum Team: President: I, Members: Kelvin Chia, Charlene Yong, Sandra Yeo, Yung Jeat, Reserve: Tshun Yee
Finals too in this month. I have a bad feeling about my exams this time... =(
To be continued P.S. Hope that I will have learnt to upload photos by then
